New Zealand is an island country in the
Pacific Ocean. It consists of two main landmasses-North
Island, South Island and 700 smaller islands. The capital
city is Wellington and the most popular city. The relief of New
Zealand is represented by mountain hills. The coastal
areas of the North Island are represented by valleys.
There are many fjords along the west coast of the South
Island. New
Zealand's climate is diverse. It is subtropical on the
North Island, to cool temperate climate in the south and
in the central regions of the South Island. The alpine
climate prevails in the mountain areas. There are many
rivers and lakes in New Zealand. There are also 3,280
lakes in New Zealand. Most of the lakes on the North
Island are formed as a result of volcanic activity, and
those on the South Island are of glacial origin. The
largest lake is Taupo, and the deepest lake is
Hauroko
