Beginning
New Zealand is an island nation in the
Southwest Pacific. It consists of two
main parts called the North Island and the South
Island, as well as many smaller islands, Stuart Island and
Chatham Islands. New Zealand also includes the Cook
Islands, Niue and Tokelau.
New Zealand is notable for its geographical isolation. It is
located about 2,000 km from the southeastern part of
Australia in the Tasmanian Sea. Its closest neighbors to the
north are New Caledonia, Fiji and Tonga. Due to its long
isolation, New Zealand has a distinctive fauna, where the
most interesting and diverse birds. Some of them were
destroyed after the arrival of people who brought various
mammals with them. |
